Why Urgent Care_4x.png

An urgent care clinic is designed to bridge the health provider gap between your family veterinarian and the emergency hospital. Urgent care hours tend to be moderately different from a normal, family veterinary practice, but very rarely, are a full, 24-hour hospital.

Veterinary Urgent Care of the Desert opens its doors midday until later into the evening, in order to provide overflow care for patients that need to be seen that day, and allow for later care after general practices close. However, we are NOT a full service emergency hospital and cannot perform stabilization procedures on critical patients. For these patients, it is imperative to travel to a 24-hour emergency facility, which will have the staffing, equipment and services that will be able to provide this life-saving, critical care. The amount of time saved by directly traveling to the right facility could be the difference between life or death for your beloved pet.

If you are unsure of whether your pet is critical, please do not hesitate to call Veterinary Urgent Care of the Desert so that we can provide advice on where to go.

Emergencies we are unable to provide care for include, but are not limited to:

  • Respiratory distress: your pet is having difficulty breathing, turning blue or has a history of a heart or respiratory condition with these clinical signs

  • Significant trauma or bleeding: such as being hit by a car or other major accident

  • Toxin ingestion: Please start an ASPCA Poison Control Consult by calling 888-426-4435 prior to traveling to a hospital to ensure the proper care is initiated

  • Inability to urinate

  • Seizures: A single seizure lasting longer than 5 minutes, or 2 or more seizures in a 24 hour time frame

Why choose VUCD.png

We understand the anxiety and stress that comes along with a sick pet. Our goal is to bridge the gap between your regular veterinary practitioner and an emergency care hospital when your pet is too ill to wait another day, but not ill enough to require hospitalization.

Our veterinary professionals practice high-quality, compassionate and kind medicine, designed to bring your pets immediate relief until they can see your regular veterinarian again.

In addition to that, we are here to help triage your pet's issues and help you decide whether or not it can wait until your regular veterinarian can attend to them, or if further hospitalization or care is needed with an emergency hospital.

VETERINARY URGENT CARE OF THE DESERT is dedicated to providing immediate medical attention to animals in need of urgent care without life-threatening conditions. We do not offer general wellness appointments, vaccinations, spays/neuters, or any other non-urgent primary care services.
